These shimmering mother-of-pearl earrings reinterpret a double beaker crafted around 1593/94–1602 by the consummate goldsmith Georg Rühl (German, master 1598, died 1625), who was duly celebrated for the way he so artfully mounted exotic materials with gilded silver. The vessel in The Met collection that inspired this suite boasts mother-of-pearl stripes likely taken from an object made in Gujarat, India.
